Funding for consultancy work

You can get half the cost covered – for bringing in a consultant to review your opportunities

Do you operate in Västra Götaland? Then VGR's Digitaliseringscheck can cover up to half the cost when you bring in external help to increase your digital maturity: automation of internal processes, better use of data, AI and advanced digital technology, or investigation of legal terms and cybersecurity.

Who can apply Established small and medium-sized companies in Västra Götaland: no more than 249 employees, at least two full-time employees and SEK 3 million in net turnover. Companies with 10–49 employees are prioritised.
How much A maximum of SEK 250,000 and up to 50 per cent of the cost of external consultancy. Amounts applied for below SEK 50,000 are not processed – the total budget needs to be at least SEK 100,000.
What is supported Work that increases your digital maturity: automation, data and decision support, AI, traceability and delivery capability, and investigation of legal terms and cybersecurity.
What is not supported Websites and e-commerce platforms, software and licences, content production, training, marketing to end customers and pure regulatory compliance work.

Why the grant exists

The Digitaliseringscheck is Region Västra Götaland's grant for established companies that want to strengthen their competitiveness by increasing their digital maturity. The point is not to buy new technology, but to develop the business, organisation and processes – and to increase the company's capacity for renewal and change.

For many smaller companies this is decisive: you know something ought to be done, but there is no budget to bring in someone to look at the whole picture. The voucher solves half of that problem. The other half is defining a piece of work that actually leads somewhere – and that is where we come in.

Official terms, forms and contact persons are available from Region Västra Götaland.

What can be funded – and what can't

The grant covers external consultancy work, not day-to-day operations or ongoing business development. This is where the line falls in practice:

ActivitySupportedComment
Automation of internal processesYesReduce manual work and get more efficient workflows – orders, stock, reporting, recurring administration.
Better use of the company's dataYesFollow-up, management control and decision support. Often the fastest way to raise digital maturity.
AI and advanced digital technologyYesFrom mapping use cases to pilot and roll-out.
Investigation of legal terms and cybersecurityYesExplicitly named as an example: terms for digital services and products, information security and incident preparedness.
Strategy and analysisIn some casesCan be included if the work is clearly linked to implementation.
Website or e-commerce platformNoDeveloping a website or e-commerce platform is excluded.
Software and licencesNoThe grant covers consultancy work, not the purchase of existing solutions.
Content, training and marketingNoText, images and video, training, and sales activities aimed at end customers are not covered.
Pure regulatory complianceNoAdaptation solely to meet legal requirements is not supported – but investigating legal terms and cybersecurity can be.

This summary is based on VGR's own examples and may change. Always check the current terms with Region Västra Götaland before you apply.

How we help you

From opportunity to approved project

We can't decide on funding – VGR does. But we can make sure the work is framed to fit the purpose of the grant, and that the application holds up.

What we do

  • Assess whether you are likely to qualify based on size, business and industry.
  • Review where your digital maturity actually falls short – and what is worth investing in.
  • Frame the work to match the purpose of the grant, with activities and impact in plain language.
  • Prepare a quote and supporting documents that will stand up to assessment and the final report.
  • Keep track of the time windows: no processing 15 June–15 August and 15 December–15 January.

What you need to know

  • The application is submitted through Min ansökan, the portal of Tillväxtverket (the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth), together with annual reports and quotes.
  • Applications can be submitted at any time of year and are processed on a rolling basis.
  • Payment is made after the work has been carried out and the invoices paid, with supporting documents and a final report.
  • Decisions and terms are set by VGR. We are not Region Västra Götaland and cannot promise funding.
  • If you operate in another region: get in touch and we will look at what applies there.

The application is made in Tillväxtverket's portal, with annual reports, auditor's reports and quotes attached.

Carry out the work and get paid

Once the work is done and the invoices paid, you apply for payment with supporting documents and a final report.

Questions and answers

What we get asked

Who can apply for the Digitaliseringscheck?

Established small and medium-sized companies in Västra Götaland with no more than 249 employees, at least two full-time employees and SEK 3 million in net turnover according to the latest annual report. Companies with 10–49 employees are prioritised. VGR always makes an overall assessment of the application, and certain industries are not normally supported.

How much can we get?

The grant can amount to a maximum of SEK 250,000 and covers up to 50 per cent of the cost of external consultancy. Applications for an amount below SEK 50,000 are not processed, so the total budget needs to be at least SEK 100,000.

Can the voucher fund a new online shop or e-commerce platform?

No, developing a website or e-commerce platform is one of the exclusions. However, automation of internal processes, better use of data, AI and advanced digital technology, and investigation of legal terms and cybersecurity can be supported. An e-commerce question can often be reframed as that kind of work – for example order and stock flows, data for decision support, or security and contracts.

We have eight employees – are we too small?

The requirement is at least two full-time employees and SEK 3 million in net turnover. If you are below that, the Digitaliseringscheck is not the right grant, but VGR has several other forms of support and there is also support from other organisations. Get in touch and we will look at what suits you.

Does it apply outside Västra Götaland?

No, this is Region Västra Götaland's grant and applies to companies in Västra Götaland. If you operate in another region, some other regions offer equivalent grants – contact us and we will go through what applies to you.
